Who We Are

The Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce is the dedicated champion for our more than 1,700 business members and their 153,000 employees. The Chamber’s volunteer leadership and staff marshal the organization’s resources to advance a competitive business environment that gives members a distinct advantage in achieving business objectives.

The Wichita region is the premier place to grow companies, careers and communities.

The mission of the Chamber is to drive economic growth and community advancement in the Wichita region.

Below you will find five focus areas and their critical strategic priorities that your Chamber will be advancing to transform our metro area in 2014.

Job Creation

Grow the Wichita regional economy through the retention and creation of high quality primary jobs and new capital investment by new and existing business.

     Strategic Priorities
     Support the Leadership Council and GWEDC on 2014 initiatives to improve Wichita’s
     competitiveness for primary jobs by benchmarking our community’s assets, agility
     and incentives.

     Strengthen the private/public partnership that enables GWEDC to work with new and
     existing employers to create 1,500 new primary jobs in 2014.

Small Business

Meet the critical needs of small businesses and entrepreneurs in the Wichita metro area.

     Strategic Priorities
     Expand the scope and size of the Business Services Advisory Council by April 1
     and develop a plan to grow and fund new small business services by October
     of 2014.

     Develop and launch an initiative by June 2014 to support entrepreneurship through
     a partnership involving the Leadership Council and other stakeholders.

Business Advocacy

Achieve a public policy agenda for business and the community at the local, state and federal level.

     Strategic Priorities 
     Develop a new regional legislative agenda by November 2014.

     Secure a final record of decision by June 2014 on McConnell Air Force Base’s bid to
     establish the first KC-46 main operating base.

     Educate Chamber members on key local, state and federal races by June in
     preparation for the August, 2014 primary elections.

Workforce Development/Education

Develop, attract and retain a well-educated and trained workforce for the Wichita region.

     Strategic Priorities
     Deliver a systemic workforce readiness assessment model from Business and
     Education Alliance by September 2014.

     Create a multi-year technology economic enhancement strategic plan and
     produce two industry engagement opportunities with the Technology Alliance 
     by September 2014.

     Increase the number of companies posting internship positions on YPW’s
     LaunchWichita.com from 30 to 60 by December 2014.

Downtown/Quality of Place

Recognize that quality of place, beginning with a vibrant downtown, is critical to the entire region’s vitality.

     Strategic Priorities 
     Support the strategic priorities identified in Project Downtown: The Master Plan
     for Wichita through Visioneering throughout 2014.

     Identify opportunities, as YPW, to advocate for downtown revitalization throughout 2014.
