Wichita Board of Education Candidate Biographies

Betty Arnold
 

Wichita, Kansas has been home to Betty Arnold for 40 years.  She graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.  She is married to Tommy Arnold, and has three daughters and six grandchildren.  All three of her children graduated from Wichita Public Schools and continued their education at the University of Kansas.  Not only has Betty promoted academics and extra curricular activities for her daughters, she has continued to do so with her grandchildren.

 
Jeff Davis  

Jeff Davis has lived his entire life in Wichita and has served proudly for 28 years as an officer with the Wichita Police Department.  In continuing his public service he wants serve on Wichita Public Schools’ Board of Education. 

Jeff knows a lot about our schools because he is in them almost every day. He has worked as a beat officer in a number of schools, served as a DARE instructor, works with School Resource Officers and meets regularly with students, teachers and administrators in schools across the city.

Jeff has been married to Kathy for 25 years; father to 2 sons (Both graduates of USD 259 - South High School)

Dr. Kevass J. Harding  
Pastor Kevass J. Harding was born on June 20, 1967 in Wichita, Kansas. He was educated in the Public School System of Wichita. He is a graduate of Wichita Southeast High School. In 1988 he received his Associate of Art Degree from Hutchinson Community College. In 1991 he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at El Paso. In 1999 he received his Master of Divinity Degree (cum laude) from Phillips Theological Seminary. In 2006, he received his Doctor of Ministry Degree, specializing in Church Administration and Congregational Growth and Revitalization from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Pastor Harding has been married to the former Teketa Berry for 12 years and they have two beautiful children: Carnez and Makayla.

In 1998, Pastor Harding was ordained a Deacon in the United Methodist Church, and in 2002, ordained as an Elder in the Church. He served Saint Mark United Methodist Church, in Wichita, Kansas, for three years as an Associate Pastor in the Kansas West Conference.

In July of 1998 Pastor Harding was appointed to Dellrose United Methodist Church in Wichita, Kansas, where he currently serves as Senior Pastor. Within the past 8 years, Dellrose has grown from 25 to over 800 members.

Education: BA Ohio University 1972, majors in economics and government; MA Ohio University 1973, in economics.

Executive Director, Kansas Taxpayers Network. I have been in this position almost 15 years.

I have served 8 years on the Wichita Public Library Board (1995-2003) and as treasurer, secretary, and chaired the finance committee. Previously I served on two separate Citizens Participation Organization (CPO) with the city of Wichita. CPO’s were the predecessor organization to today’s DAB boards and were elected in each city council ward/district.

In 2006 I was elected as a committeeman in precinct 522 in west Wichita. I have also been involved in tax referendum elections in this community for many years.

   
John Stevens
 
Retired owner/operator of several small businesses including oil & gas production, oil well drilling, sign manufacturing and restaurant interiors. He graduated from East High in 1961. Studied accounting at Wichita State University, engineering at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas and Oil Field Technology at Kilgore College in Kilgore Texas. He serves on several community boards including Schweiter East Neighborhood Association, Wichita Independent Neighborhoods, Inc. and Wichita SCORE Chapter. He is the current Chairman of the WICHITA SCORE Chapter which counsels entrepreneurs who want to start new businesses. He is actively involved in the Visioneering Wichita program in the area of economic development. John’s interest in the youth of Wichita began at age 25 when he owned the Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Store that was located at Woodlawn and Central. With a teenage workforce, training and encouraging students was part of running the business. Today he is concerned that not enough of our youth are getting the education they need to succeed and be fully functioning individuals in our community.
