On May 2nd W.W. Bill Hanna, President, Koch Industries, Inc., retired and Barry Downing, Former President, Corporate Lodging Consultants, Inc. were inducted into the Junior Achievement of Wichita Business Hall of Fame. At the same event, Othal Vrana, Director Emeritus Junior Achievement of Wichita, board member for over 44 years was named the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year. All three honorees and their families attended a dinner at the Hyatt with over 450 people in attendance to honor them. Junior Achievement of Wichita uses hands on experiences to help young people understand the economics of life. In partnerships with business and educations, Junior Achievement brings the real world to students opening their minds to their potential.
Fourteen participants of the Chamber's 2005 Leadership Wichita class have touched the lives of every freshman at Wichita West High through a JA program entitled “JA Success Skills.” Success Skills develops students' interpersonal effectiveness and problem-solving skills necessary for the workplace. There is a strong commitment from Junior Achievement to be back at West high next year. The leadership team of the Wichita Clinic has been named the 2006 Top Leadership Team in Healthcare – medical group practices category, by HealthLeaders Media, publisher of HealthLeaders magazine. Wichita Clinic was recognized at an awards ceremony in Nashville on June 13. The judges selected the institution for its ability to move forward with plans to build a new $26 million surgery center on a 30-acre campus. The project was completed on time and within budget. This was the first year HealthLeaders Media sponsored the group practices category.
The Museum of World Treasures has entered into an official partnership with the board of the American Overseas Schools Historical Society. This partnership is a result of years of cooperation between the two organizations.
The AOSHS has generously loaned the museum several artifacts, including a 12-foot high section of the Berlin wall, the armor of an authentic replica of a 15th Century German Knight and a large banner taken from Hitler’s Stadium during the Battle of Nurnberg. In short, this means more high quality artifacts will be coming to the museum, as the AOSHS archives are some of the most comprehensive and impressive in the country.
Optima Bus Corporation was selected by Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, located in Cleveland, Ohio, as its Business Partner of the Year. Optima received this award because of its collaboration with Greater Cleveland RTA on the Opus Low-floor Bus with Streetcar Features. Optima received this award on at a streetcar-themed ceremony in Cleveland on Friday, June 2. The Opus Low-floor Bus with Streetcar Features was placed into service in Cleveland on April 10, 2006.
Douglas L. Stanley has been elected as managing partner of Foulston Siefkin LLP. Mr. Stanley will succeed Richard D. Ewy who will continue as a partner in the firm.
