Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce honored Linwood Sexton with Uncommon Citizen award

Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce honored Linwood Sexton with Uncommon Citizen award

The Chamber also recognized outstanding companies for their long-standing commitment to this community.

Wichita, KS – The Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce honored Linwood Sexton with the Uncommon Citizen award, their most prestigious award, during the Chamber’s Honors Night 2006 at Beech Activity Center April 27. This award is given annually to a remarkable individual who has truly demonstrated uncommon citizenship to this community.

 

Linwood Sexton has been active in civic and service enterprises for many years. He is a well-known athlete, and one of the first black athletes to compete in the Missouri Valley Conference – helping to change the face of sports … and this nation.

 

He has been an influential advocate for education among minorities and has given years of service to community organizations such as United Way, the YMCA, Wichita State University, and the Chamber.

 

Other award recipients included:

Commerce Bank, awarded the Keeper of the Plains Award. This award recognizes outstanding architecture and the honoree is selected by an expert committee of design professionals based on aesthetic quality, visibility and maintenance.

 

The Over the Years Award recognizing businesses exhibiting a long-standing performance as good business citizens and major contributors to our area's economic well-being. This award went to three organizations:

 

BG Products, Inc.

Envision, Inc.

WDM Architects.

 

Cessna Aircraft Company was awarded the Spirit of Wichita Award. This award is given to a past Over the Years Award winner and continues to show employment stability, leadership, business innovation and community involvement.

 

 

The presenting sponsor for the evening was Fidelity Bank.
