Posted by: Scott Elpers on Friday, July 14, 2023

A new daily direct flight from Eisenhower National Airport (ICT) in Wichita to Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Washington D.C. will begin January 2024 with help by the Wichita Airport Authority, Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce and its Air Services Taskforce.

“This direct flight from the Air Capital to the nation’s capital saves valuable time for the business community and elected officials, allowing them to reach their destinations more efficiently and conduct their business without delays or layovers,” said John Rolfe, President and CEO of the Wichita Chamber. “This is a big win for the business community in the region.”

The Chamber led an initiative to gain support from the business community for the D.C flight.

“Expanding air service attracts new businesses to Wichita. When companies consider establishing a presence in a city, convenient air travel is a crucial factor,” Rolfe said. “By offering these flights, Wichita becomes a more attractive location for businesses looking to expand or relocate.”

The American Airlines flight will depart Wichita at 3:30 p.m. (CT) and arrive in Washington D.C. at 7:15 p.m. (ET). The flight from D.C. will depart at 11:30 a.m. (ET) and arrive in Wichita at 1:45 p.m. (CT).

Flight service begins January 8, 2024.

Sen. Jerry Moran announced the expanded air service July 14. As a member of the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, Sen. Moran has been an advocate for expanded air service in Kansas.

“Over the past several years, I have hosted numerous business leaders and federal officials in Wichita to meet with local leaders and witness our aerospace, aviation and defense manufacturing capabilities,” Moran said. “As companies in Wichita continue to secure federal work, I have seen a vital need of connecting ‘The Air Capital of the World’ with the nation’s capital.”
