Have more organizations pledged sales tax support?

The Chamber’s Board of Directors recently announced their support of the 1 percent sales tax referendum. Wichitans will vote on this issue on November 4. During the next few months Chamber members will utilize the blog to provide commentary and answer questions about the sales tax. Today’s question is answered by Roger King, a member of the Chamber’s Leadership Council. Yes. Six local organizations have formally announced their support of the sales tax initiative:

• IBEW L.U. 271 Electrical Workers
• Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local 441
• Young Professionals of Wichita
• Wichita Downtown Development Corporation
• Go Wichita Convention & Visitors Bureau
• Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce

The leadership of the IBEW L.U. 271 Electrical Workers announced their support of the 1 percent sales tax referendum today.  Roger King, the Business Manager for the Union, says his organization is backing the effort to diversify the jobs base in Wichita and create more employment opportunities for their members. King said, “Growing our own local businesses and attracting new companies requires wise investments in Wichita’s infrastructure. We support the long-term water plan, road maintenance, more transit options and the jobs plan.”
