The Wichita Thunder is an ‘AA’ affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers and a member of the ECHL (formerly the East Coast Hockey League). We are currently in our 27th season, which makes us the 5th oldest minor league franchise in North America! We strive to provide the best and most affordable family entertainment in all of minor league sports.

Why did you join the Chamber and what do you find most valuable about Chamber membership?
The Thunder has been a member of the Chamber for nearly 20 years. We love all of the B2B networking opportunities available monthly through the Chamber and have met many of our current partners through these events!

The 2018 #ILoveWichita night was so successful that the Thunder is bringing it back in 2019.Describe a recent success/win.
Last season we launched our first ever #ILOVEWICHITA Night on Saturday, January 20, 2018.  It was one of our most successful games in franchise history, not only from an attendance standpoint but from an overall WOW factor. Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell unveiled the Wichita Flag jersey to generate excitement about the event and then dropped the puck to start the game. The overall sense of community pride was tremendous. We received more compliments on our Wichita Flag jersey than any other jersey in almost 20 years! Join us for our 2nd Annual #ILOVEWICHITA Night on Saturday, January 26!  Chamber members can receive a ticket discount by using the promotional code CHAMBER19. (A $21 Goal Zone ticket is discounted to $10 with the special Chamber code.)

To what do you attribute your success?
Our success is due to not only having a great staff but also offering the most entertaining yet affordable product in the city. It’s always our goal to send everyone home happy regardless of the scoreboard at the end of the game.

Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell modeled the special Wichita Flag jersey that was worn for the #ILoveWichita night. What is your favorite Chamber event, program, or service and why?
The Exposure trade show is our favorite event. We love the opportunity to not only network with over 1,700 attendees at this popular trade show, but also to connect with the other 200 business vendors that are trying to accomplish the same goals that we are. We have had TREMENDOUS results from Exposure and the Thunder will always be involved with this annual event.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how strongly would you recommend Chamber membership to a colleague? Why?
An absolute 10! We are constantly recommending the Chamber to other businesses that are not involved. We always let them know that it’s a great way to spread their message to other members through networking and other opportunities that the Chamber offers.

Follow the Wichita Thunder and plan to attend #ILOVEWICHITA night on Saturday, January 26, 2019.
