Please tell us a little bit about your business.

Since our inception in 1985 IMS Barter, formerly known as Kansas Trade Exchange, sets out every day to change the way the world does business. We are a lasting resource for business growth and achieve this by connecting clients through our B2B trade network. We function as a 3rd party record keeper and facilitator engaging members to save cash and by selling their excess capacity each and every day.

Describe your company's most recent success.

Just this week we were able to fulfill requests for website development, an attorney, an optical visit and 5 dozen more requests. Though some of these seem slight in the eye of a few, many times these are pressing necessities in order to grow both as a business and at times personally. Many clients use trade to enhance their lifestyle as well and offset expenses and pressure on the family budget.

What aspect of your organization are you most passionate about?

Our Clients! I have been with IMS Barter since 1998 and I have made so many lasting friendships throughout Greater Wichita. We play a part in the financial achievements for our clients and those successes manifest themselves.

What differentiates your business from your competitors?

We really have no competition. Our biggest challenge is continually educating the business community about the advantages of utilizing trade to increase sales, expand market share and offset expenditures. Our B2B commerce is not the direct trade from the days of old.

What is your favorite Chamber event, program, or service?

Alyssa Wesbrook is our network representative and participates in many Chamber events. She has to say this about our affiliation... Currently the Member Business Exchange is my favorite event, but I will be so happy to have the Sunrise Scramblers and Mixers back! I am also involved with a leads group through the Chamber and I see a TON of value in that program.

What is the best thing about doing business in Wichita?

Once again, it is the business community. There is a positive and passionate unspoken kindred spirit and a sense of partnership in our city that we are all in this together and that deep-rooted allegiance resonates throughout. I am very proud to say this is a great place to raise a family and do business.

What is your favorite business app and why?

My calendar. I don't know what I would do without it. I'm still old fashion and like a bit of a paper trail and written notes but if I didn't have that handy dandy little tool, I wouldn't remember anything and I'd be late for everything!

What exciting things do you have coming up at International Monetary Systems (IMS)?

We feature an online Cyber Exchange Days shopping event for clients in November where they can shop our marketplace. This is similar to Ebay, but payments will be processed using the IMS Trade Dollar. Currently, there is over $10 million in products listed on this barter marketplace.
