Please tell us a little bit about your business.
Kansas Business Group on Health (KBGH) which is a nonprofit program affiliated with the Medical Society of Sedgwick County focuses on helping businesses improve their health care benefits through cost reduction and quality improvement. Nearly thirty local employers and other stakeholders are members of KBGH who have access to all services, educational opportunities, and more. KBGH supports innovation and current trends in healthcare benefit design.
Describe your company's most recent success.
One member of KBGH that has nearly 200 covered lives is utilizing one of the services offered by KBGH which is a transparent passthrough Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) program. during the first year the organization has saved nearly $200,000 in pharmaceutical costs.
What aspect of your organization are you most passionate about?
Empowering local businesses to take control of their healthcare costs through new models and new ways of thinking about benefit design. This is one of the largest costs a company has and one that typically increases year to year. Healthcare costs are increasing at a rate higher than inflation and wages, but there are ways to mitigate these growing costs. KBGH staff includes a medical director who is a physician (endocrinologist) helping support these efforts.
What differentiates your business from your competitors?
There is not business that does what we do. We are an affiliate of the Medical Society of Sedgwick County which allows us access to over 1000 local physicians.
What is your favorite Chamber event, program, or service?
Historically, the Sunrise Scramblers, the weekly updates, the conferences, and events for networking.
What is your favorite business book?
The Price we Pay; What Broke American Healthcare and How to Fix It by Dr. Marty Makary, and Good to Great by Jim Collins
What is the best thing about doing business in Wichita?
That there is so much opportunity to work with employers who once they understand what they can do, they are willing to make changes that are better for the business and also for the employees.
What is your favorite business app and why?
Google Drive because every team member can access it anytime and add anything and it will save automatically. Salesforce because it is free and has a number of options that help with marketing and connecting with members.
What exciting things do you have coming up at Bel Aire Recovery Center?
Yes, we have a webinar on diabetes support in the workplace on November 9. We also have one of two annual conferences, the Innovation Summit, which will be held virtually on January 25. We host bi-monthly HR Forums and also a book club that also meets bi-monthly. We have just created our 2022 calendar of events which will have myriad of topics relevant to healthcare benefits, trends, new regulations per the Consolidated Appropriations Act.
