Please tell us a little bit about your business.
Kansas Children’s Service League (KCSL) is a 501(c)3 whose mission is to protect and promote the wellbeing of children. KCSL works to create, repair, and restore healthy parent-child relationships which are the foundation of a strong family. This work fosters long-term positive impacts on all Kansans, not just those we serve directly. Our work with children and families improves school readiness now so that graduation rates improve in the future. We help families succeed now to be better parents and better employees. We are creating a stronger, more resilient, and educated workforce for the future of Kansas. This improves prosperity and success for all Kansas communities.
Describe your company's most recent success.
Kansas Children’s Service League continues to be a leader in Child Abuse Prevention work. Despite the pandemic, the agency worked hard to continue to support the young families we work with by providing virtual visits, drive-thru Christmas and Thanksgiving activities, and porch visits.
What aspect of your organization are you most passionate about?
We are most excited about the multi-faceted approach to child abuse prevention. We have case managers working directly with families. We provide a 1-800 children helpline for parents in Kansas 24/7 that need advice or resources. We continue to work in advocating for the children of Kansas through our work in Topeka at the Capitol with our lobbying work and testimony among legislature meetings.
What differentiates your business from your competitors?
The work of child abuse prevention is a large problem that needs to be tackled by many organizations. We do not look at other agencies as competitors but as collaborative partners to help solve a really large problem.
What is your favorite Chamber event, program, or service?
We are a huge fan of the member to member speed dating event.
What is your favorite business book?
I am currently reading a book by Brad Heyen, VP of Bank of the West, called Eighteen Years. It is a depiction of a child growing up the foster care system.
What is the best thing about doing business in Wichita?
Wichita is a great community with solid core values. The people are very friendly and down to earth.
What is your favorite business app and why?
We like the 1-800 Children helpline application as it helps families find the resources and support that they need. Find it by searching 1800ChildrenKS in your app store.
Looking Forward...
We look forward to continuing to work with the Wichita Chamber of Commerce. I would value an opportunity to come and talk with your business leaders about the work that KCSL is doing locally. For every $1 we invest in prevention work we save $7 down the road in other services for our clients. We need to continue to work on the problem before it impacts our community.
