The Wichita Regional Chamber Political Action Committee has met after interviewing candidates for Wichita Mayor and City Council and issued the following endorsements for the General Election on November 7.
Wichita Mayor
Lily Wu is the WRCC PAC’s choice for Wichita Mayor. Despite being a newcomer to elected politics, Wu has demonstrated a solid understanding of the complexities of city government. Her years covering city hall as an award-winning journalist have no doubt helped in her understanding, but so has her commitment to studying issues, meeting with city leaders and staff and listening to voters. Wu brings a high level of energy and passion for her hometown that the WRCC PAC believes will translate well both within Wichita and nationally. The WRCC PAC also believes that Wu would be a bridge builder both on the council bench and in the greater community. Professional leadership is required in city hall. Wu is that leader.
District 2
Incumbent Becky Tuttle is the PAC’s choice for Wichita City Council District 2. Tuttle has proven her value as an experienced leader and thoughtful voice on the city council. Tuttle’s work in the community prior to elected office has been an asset to the community during her time in office. She knows the community well and has remained in touch with those she serves. Tuttle has also been a strong voice for the business community pushing back against policies that would have expanded government regulation and stifled job creation.
District 4
Former Sedgwick County Commissioner Dalton Glasscock is by far the clear choice to represent the seat being retired by Councilman Jeff Blubaugh, who is term limited. Glasscock knows how to govern and how to work with people regardless of their political ideology or background. His understanding of government and his level-headed approach would make him a valuable addition to the current City Council. Voters in District 4 have been well represented the last eight years, and Dalton Glasscock would ensure that trend continues.
District 5
J.V. Johnston has earned the right to serve the citizens of Wichita City Council District 5 and receives the PAC’s endorsement. Johnston has a long and successful history of serving the citizens of Wichita on several not-for-profit boards and has been on the District 5 advisory board for the last 8 years, most recently as its chairperson. Johnston has been a business owner, met a payroll and now oversees a healthcare organization. This invaluable experience will serve the people of Wichita well with Johnston bringing his experience, thoughtfulness, and professionalism to the city council.
