Inaugural Flight from Wichita to Washington D.C. Takes Off

Posted by: Scott Elpers on Thursday, January 11, 2024

Wichita now has a direct, daily flight from Eisenhower National Airport (ICT) to Washington D.C. (DCA) thanks to the collective effort of businesses, organizations and government officials.

The Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce works regularly with elected officials at the state, local and federal levels to advocate for transportation projects that impact the business community across the region.

“Transportation infrastructure, like direct flights out of Eisenhower National Airport, are critical to developing and expanding business in South Central Kansas,” said John Rolfe, President & CEO of the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce. “By establishing this direct daily flight, we are positioning the region as a key player on the national stage with the potential for increased investment, job creation and economic prosperity. It’s not just a logistical convenience. It is a strategic move that will elevate our regional standing and amplify our voice.”

The flight from Wichita departs at 2:51 pm and arrives in Washington at 6:38 p.m. The flight departs Washington at 11:34 a.m. and arrives in Wichita at 1:57 p.m. The flights are operated by 76-seat Embraer-175 aircraft with first-class service. American Airlines is the largest airline serving DCA.

Direct connection means increased accessibility to government agencies, regulatory bodies and the potential to expand business in our nation’s capital. For elected officials, this direct flight streamlines travel and strengthens the representation of the region's interests at the federal level.

“It saves valuable time for the business community and elected officials, allowing them to reach their destinations more efficiently and conduct business without delays or layovers. When companies consider establishing a presence in a city, convenient air travel is a crucial factor. With more direct flights, Wichita becomes an attractive location for businesses looking to expand or relocate," Rolfe said. "This flight will change the way Wichita does business now, and for decades to come. Wichita is the Air Capital of the World today and this flight helps ensure that we will always stay that way.”
