The Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 2025 Chair’s Lunch at INTRUST Bank Arena on February 20 was more than just an annual gathering of the region’s top business, civic and community leaders. It was a call to action for the business community to prioritize one of Wichita's most pressing challenges - talent retention.
Chamber events like the Chair’s Lunch serve as an important platform for advancing economic priorities and engaging the business community in meaningful dialogue.
“Talent isn’t just a buzzword. It’s the lifeblood of our business community. It means a skilled, dynamic workforce that fuels sustainable economic growth,” said John Rolfe, President & CEO of the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce. “The data shows we must do more to keep young professionals here in Wichita and engaged in our community.”
The Talent Imperative
Competitive salaries and benefits matter, but culture, leadership and growth opportunities also play a vital role in attracting and retaining young professionals. Businesses that create environments where employees feel valued, heard and empowered will be the ones that succeed.
“When young professionals see a community that is engaged, forward-thinking and committed to progress, they are more likely to put down roots and build their futures here,” said Victor Ojeleye, 2025 Chamber Board Chair. “We can’t afford to wait for talent to find us. We must be intentional about creating opportunities, building connections and investing in the people who will drive our community forward.”
The discussion underscored the need for mentorship, leadership development initiatives and a workplace culture that prioritizes its people.
“The future isn’t just something we hope for. It’s something we build together,” said Ojeleye.
20 Years of Impact: The Chamber’s Commitment to Talent
The Chamber remains focused on initiatives that drive economic growth, support businesses and build a strong workforce. From leadership programs to strategic partnerships, the Chamber continues to champion efforts that make Wichita a destination for top talent.
This year’s Chair’s Lunch featured a panel of individuals involved in the Chamber’s marquee talent initiative, W - A Community of Young Professionals. Over the past two decades, W has played a pivotal role in connecting, developing and empowering the next generation of Wichita’s leaders. By creating meaningful relationships and providing professional growth opportunities, W has become a crucial part of the region’s talent retention strategy.
“We’re fortunate to live in a place where opportunities for young talent exist,” said Kyle Ellison, the Chamber’s Vice Chair of Talent, “but we must continue to nurture and invest in the people who will shape our future.”
