The Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce has officially launched its new Military Affairs Council, a strategic initiative designed to enhance collaboration between the region’s business community and McConnell Air Force Base.
This timely launch in recognition of Military Appreciation Month in May, reflects the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to reinforcing Wichita’s position as a strong, defense-supportive community while advancing economic growth and quality of life for military families.
“McConnell Air Force Base plays an essential role in our local economy and national security,” said John Rolfe, President and CEO of the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce. “Through this council, we’re deepening our commitment to those who serve and enhancing opportunities for their families to thrive right here in Wichita.”
The MAC aims to ensure that the Wichita region remains a vital and trusted partner in national defense efforts through strategic awareness, support and collaboration with McConnell Air Force Base leadership.
This Military Affairs Council has the potential to deepen the bond between the military, our businesses and the broader community,” said Toni Porter, Chamber Vice President of Government Relations and Military Affairs. “This council was created with a clear purpose - to connect, support and empower those who serve, and those who stand beside them.”
Council Goals:
- Strengthen Connections: Host events that create relationships between McConnell leadership and local business leaders.
- Bridge Workforce Gaps: Connect employers with highly skilled and dedicated talent - including military spouses, Guardsmen, Reservists and transitioning service members.
- Advocate for Military Families: Support policy efforts that expand access to childcare, family services and other quality-of-life enhancements to ensure Wichita is not only a duty station, but a home.
Why It Matters:
- Economic Impact: McConnell AFB contributes more than $1 billion in economic impact.
- Strategic Importance: With over 6,000 Total Force Airmen, the base is central to both national defense efforts and regional prosperity.
- Community Integration: Service members and their families are more than military personnel - they’re our neighbors, volunteers and valued members of the Wichita community.
The Military Affairs Council reflects a unified commitment to honoring service, supporting families and creating economic opportunity across the region.
