Wichita Chamber Supports 1% Sales Tax Proposal

Posted by: Scott Elpers on Friday, January 23, 2026

Following a vote on January 22 by the Board of Directors, the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce has officially endorsed the proposed 1-percent sales tax that will appear on the ballot in the upcoming special election on March 3.

The Chamber supports the 1-percent sales tax because we believe the investments outlined in the ballot language will strengthen Wichita’s economic competitiveness and create long-term value for the business community.

The proposal includes investments in infrastructure, public safety, housing and downtown development. These areas directly influence a community’s quality of place, which is essential to attracting and retaining talent, supporting employers and sustaining business growth. These are all critical components of a healthy and competitive business environment.

Wichita Forward, the organization leading this effort, includes many Chamber members who are deeply invested in Wichita’s economic future.

This decision was made after careful consideration and reflects the Chamber’s responsibility to evaluate issues based on economic impact, not politics.

We recognize that members may hold differing views on this issue. The Chamber remains committed to representing the interests of the business community. We encourage all members to review the details of the proposal and participate in the upcoming election.

Thank you for your continued engagement and investment in the Chamber and in Wichita’s future.

How about the City of Wichita completes the construction of the new waste water treatment facility AND demonstrate the new infrastructure facilities actually work properly BEFORE Wichita residents and businesses get saddled with higher sales taxes. Vote NO on March 3rd.
