The Board of Directors of the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce has voted to appoint Dale Steenbergen as its next President and CEO, following a comprehensive national search led by a committee of Chamber Board members.
Steenbergen is currently the President and CEO of the Wyoming Chamber of Commerce and the President and CEO of the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce in Wyoming, where he has served in the same capacity since 2007. He brings extensive chamber executive experience, particularly in business advocacy, government relations and public policy, as well as extensive experience in military affairs.
Following the departure of the Chamber’s previous CEO, the Board established a search committee and engaged an executive search firm specializing in recruiting chamber leadership.
The Chamber committee evaluated candidates based on demonstrated executive leadership, including building a high-impact team, and success in business advocacy, public policy, military affairs, strategic partnerships, and strong relationships among business, government, and community stakeholders. Steenbergen stood out in the selection process for his substantial chamber leadership experience, including advancing pro-business policies, strengthening regional competitiveness and advocating for military investment, which supported successful economic development in the region and state. Following the committee’s recommendation, the full Board voted to appoint Steenbergen as the Chamber’s next President and CEO.
“Leading a chamber requires a clear understanding of how business and public policy intersect,” said Jeff Weiford, chair of the CEO Search Committee. “We had strong candidates, including exceptional leadership within our organization. Dale’s years as a chamber CEO and his advocacy experience were distinguishing factors in our decision. We believe he is well prepared to be a strong voice for Wichita businesses.”
The Chamber also expressed its deep appreciation for Brecken Morel, who has served as Interim President and CEO during the leadership transition. Under her leadership, the Chamber experienced membership growth, maintained strong financial performance and advanced key organizational priorities. Morel will continue serving the Chamber, returning to her role as Chief Strategy and Operations Officer following Steenbergen’s arrival.
“Brecken stepped forward when the Chamber needed her and led with dedication, professionalism and a genuine commitment to our members,” said Board Chair Gabe Schlickau. “She did more than maintain operations—she helped move the Chamber forward. We are deeply grateful for her leadership and for the strong foundation she and our team have built.”
As President and CEO, Steenbergen will lead the Chamber’s work to advocate for policies that strengthen the regional business climate, support economic opportunity and ensure the perspective of employers is heard by policymakers.
“I am honored to join the Wichita Regional Chamber,” Steenbergen said. “Wichita has a strong business community and significant opportunities ahead. I look forward to working with the Board, staff, members and community partners to champion policies that help our region thrive.”
Steenbergen will assume his responsibilities on December 1.
