We have implemented a list of protocols for all meetings and events linked here. All in-person attendees for Chamber events and meetings will be required to complete this waiver prior to attending.

What is the role of the Chamber?

For the last 100 years, the Chamber’s role has been to drive economic growth and community advancement in the Wichita region. We accomplish this by protecting and improving the business environment and quality of life in our community through programming and initiatives. We strive for success for our members, leadership for our community and prosperity for our region.

U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (middle) speaks with Mark Tucker of Cox Business and Melissa Liby of Bombardier before a Federal Issue Forum where he highlighted the importance of opportunities existing for all to preserve our democracy. What differentiates the Chamber from other business organizations?
Our advocacy work is the cornerstone of what we do. Most of our members are so busy operating their companies and organizations that they rely on us to be their voice on issues that impact them. Whether we’re providing input into a long-range water plan for the city or supporting changes in state unemployment insurance, we’re always working to create the best possible, diverse business environment so that our members will thrive in this region.

As the largest business membership organization in the state, involvement in the Chamber gives you access to our more than 1,700 business members, representing 150,000 employees and 350 business categories in the region. Our strength comes from our diversity of members. Get plugged in to the network, in order to help your business thrive and grow.

How are Chamber programs and services financed?
All of our revenue is derived from annual membership dues, special events, sponsorships and management agreements. We’re a membership-based not-for-profit 501(c)(6) organization.

Does the Chamber receive any tax dollars?
No. We don’t seek or receive any local, state or federal tax dollars. We are not subsidized by any government entities.

Are the majority of your members small businesses?
Yes. Small businesses are the backbone of the Chamber, our community and the U.S. economy. Nearly 90% of our members employ 100 or fewer people. Through their Chamber membership they have the opportunity to network, meet with their elected officials and learn from their peers.

The Chamber hosts an annual Washington Fly-In event, during which members have the opportunity to interact with the lawmakers who represent them. Does the Chamber develop an annual Legislative Agenda?
Yes. We start that process with an electronic membership survey in late summer. Our Government Relations Committee develops the annual agenda based on those survey results and presents it to our Executive Committee. The Executive Committee provides input and the agenda is then presented to and reviewed by the Chamber Board. Once it has been approved, it is published on our website. All 165 legislators in Topeka receive a printed palm card with the agenda. We also work with our regional partners to develop a broader regional agenda.

Pat Gallagher (left) oversees Military Affairs for the Chamber and supports Friends of McConnell, a Chamber affiliate. McConnell Air Force Base has a $750 million annual impact on the local economy. Do Chamber membership dues support your affiliates?
No. We have five affiliate organizations that support our mission and vision: the Chamber Political Action Committee, Friends of McConnell, Wichita Educational Foundation, Wichita Manufacturer’s Association and W (formerly known as the Young Professionals of Wichita). They each have their own governing structure and funding mechanisms. In some cases, we provide them with office space and some administrative staff time.

Learn more about our affiliates here.

Are Chamber meeting spaces available for public use?
The Chamber’s meeting rooms are only for use by the Chamber, its affiliates, key partners and other building tenants. Rooms are not available for use by a member or other business or community organization for non-Chamber purposes. It is the Chamber’s policy to treat requests for room usage for non-Chamber purposes as an opportunity to provide a referral to a Chamber member. A list of Chamber members who are event venues or have space available will be maintained by the Membership & Engagement department and is available upon request.

How is the Chamber governed?
Our 64-person Board of Directors is comprised of leaders from diverse industries. They are elected by our membership and meet bi-monthly to help us chart our course. We also have a 20-member Executive Committee that includes six officers. The policies adopted by the Board of Directors are implemented by the Chamber’s paid staff.

This design was selected from more than 100 entries that were submitted for a city flag design contest in 1937. Where can I find more information about the Wichita flag?
Wichita’s official city flag was officially adopted in 1937. Designed by Wichita artist Cecil McAlister, it represents freedom, happiness, contentment and home. The blue sun in the center represents happiness and contentment. The Native American symbol for ‘home’ is stitched on the blue sun. The three red and white rays that alternate from the off-center blue sun represent the path of freedom to come and go as one pleases.
