Frequently Asked Questions

What is the role of the Chamber?
For more than 100 years, the Chamber’s role has been to drive economic growth and community advancement in the Wichita region. We accomplish this by protecting and improving the business environment and quality of life in our community through programming and initiatives. We strive for success for our members, leadership for our community and prosperity for our region.

How can I find out if an area business or organization is a member of the Chamber?
Many of our members display a plaque or window cling with the Chamber membership logo. We also maintain an online membership directory that is searchable by business category, keywords and company name.

If my company is a member, does that mean I am a member too?
Yes! When a company becomes a Chamber member, all individuals employed at that company's address are considered Chamber members and receive privileges of membership.

How can I upload my organization's logo to our member directory listing?

  1. Log in to the Members Only Portal on our website by clicking Member Login at the top of the page.
  2. Click the Manage Company Account button. You should see the name of your organization at the top of the screen.
    • You must have admin privileges for your organization’s account to complete this step. If you do not see the Manage Company Account button, your login does not have admin privileges.
    • This step is important! If you continue to step 3 before this, the logo will be saved to your personal profile instead of the organization’s profile.
  3. Click Account Information in the My Account section.
  4. Upload your company’s logo.
  5. Click Save at the bottom of the screen.
  6. Visit the Member Directory on our website and review your organization’s directory listing.
    • Find your directory listing by entering all or part of your company’s name in the Organization Name field, then click Search to view the results.

If you have trouble during any step of this process, or if you want to request changes to your directory listing, contact Michael Lay for assistance.

How can I update my company's directory listing, address, or other information on file?
To submit updates for your organization, use this form (log-in required).

What differentiates the Chamber from other business organizations?
Our advocacy work is the cornerstone of what we do. Most of our members are so busy operating their companies and organizations that they rely on us to be their voice on issues that impact them. Whether we’re providing input into a long-range water plan for the city or supporting changes in state unemployment insurance, we’re always working to create the best possible, diverse business environment so that our members will thrive in this region.

As the largest business membership organization in the state, involvement in the Chamber gives you access to our more than 1,400 business members, representing 150,000 employees and 350 business categories in the region. Our strength comes from our diversity of members. Get plugged in to the network to help your business thrive.

How are Chamber programs and services financed?
All of our revenue is derived from annual membership dues, special events, sponsorships and management agreements. We’re a membership-based not-for-profit 501(c)(6) organization.

Does the Chamber receive any tax dollars?
No. We don’t seek or receive any local, state or federal tax dollars. We are not subsidized by any government entities.

Are the majority of your members small businesses?
Yes. Small businesses are the backbone of the Chamber, our community and the U.S. economy. More than 80% of our members employ 100 or fewer people. Through their Chamber membership they have the opportunity to network, meet with their elected officials and learn from their peers.

Does the Chamber develop an annual Legislative Agenda?
Yes. We start that process with an electronic membership survey in late summer. Our Government Relations Committee develops the annual agenda based on those survey results and presents it to our Executive Committee. The Executive Committee provides input and the agenda is then presented to and reviewed by the Chamber Board. Once it has been approved, it is published on our website. All 165 legislators in Topeka receive a printed palm card with the agenda. We also work with our regional partners to develop a broader regional agenda.

Do Chamber membership dues support your affiliates?
No. We have six affiliate organizations that support our mission and vision: Friends of McConnell, Level Up Wichita, South Central Kansas Transportation Coalition, Wichita Educational Foundation, Wichita Manufacture's Association and the Wichita Regional Chamber PAC. Each  affiliate has its own governing structure and funding mechanisms. In some cases, we provide office space and administrative staff time.

Are Chamber meeting spaces available for public use?
No. It is the Chamber’s policy to treat requests for room usage for non-Chamber purposes as an opportunity to provide a referral to a Chamber member. A list of Chamber members who are event venues or have space available is maintained by the Membership & Engagement department and is available upon request.

How is the Chamber governed?
Our 64-person Board of Directors is comprised of leaders from diverse industries. They are elected by our membership and meet bi-monthly to help us chart our course. We also have a 20-member Executive Committee that includes six officers. The policies adopted by the Board of Directors are implemented by the Chamber’s paid staff.

Where can I find more information about the Wichita flag?
Wichita’s official city flag was officially adopted in 1937. Designed by Wichita artist Cecil McAlister, it represents freedom, happiness, contentment and home. The blue sun in the center represents happiness and contentment. The Native American symbol for ‘home’ is stitched on the blue sun. The three red and white rays that alternate from the off-center blue sun represent the path of freedom to come and go as one pleases.
